consYOUmerism

We have created our own NGO. It's about consumerism. 

Our NGO is called "consYOUmerism" and our slogan is: are you buying or being bought?

We have done a video and a poster. We have also done a web page where you can find all the information, who we are and what are we fighting for.

We are living in a consumerist society so it's not bad to take a look to our video and think about it.

Future

This week we changed the roles and we became teachers for an hour. We  divided the class in groups and every group  especialised in one way to express the future. My group and I became experts on using "Will". 

Here you have  a poster that we have written to understand better the use of "Will".


Romeo and Juliet

“Romeo and Juliet” was set in Verona. In the city there were two very important families who hated each other: the Capulet and the Montague. Everything started when the Capulet family decided to organise a party. Romeo, the son of the Montague, and a friend of him decided to go to the party although they were not invited to it. They thought that no one would recognise them because it was a masks party but for their surprise they were recognised by Juliet’s cousin.

At the moment Juliet and Romeo saw each other, they fell in love. When the party finished, Romeo decided to climb to her bedroom and he confessed he was in love with her. After talking to her, he went down and his best friend and he were attacked by Juliet’s cousin and her future husband. During the fight Theo bald, Juliet’s cousin, killed Mercutio, Romeo’s best friend and for revenge, Romeo killed Juliet’s cousin. When she discovered it she was sad but Romeo and Juliet talked and they decided to get married but it, had to be a secret because they came from enmity families.

Afterwards, when Juliet was alone in her bedroom, her nurse told her that she would marry the Count Paris. Although she didn’t want to marry him the nurse explained her that her parents wanted them to marry and the wedding would be two days after. Juliet decided to talk to the priest because she didn’t know what to do. The priest proposed her a plan.
The plan consisted on two parts: first, Juliet had to drink a poison that would make her sleep for two days, in that way she won’t be able to marry Paris. Then, the priest would talk to Romeo and explain him all the plan, so he would wait for her and when he would wake up, they would disappear together.


Everything happened as they had planned till the priest didn’t explain the plan to Romeo and he thought that she had died. During the burial ceremony, Paris tried to kill Romeo but at the end Romeo killed him. Rome decided that he didn’t want to live without her and he killed himself. When Juliet woke up after the two days and she found out that Romeo was death she also decided to kill herself because she didn’t want to live without him.  At the end, all these problems and deaths happened just because two people from enemy families fell in love.  















The House

Do you like horror stories?  A friend and I have written one of a house with a curse. I hope you like it!


The third owner of the house was Finn Taylor, a millionaire teenager. He decided to buy the house because he had earn a lot of money thanks to his last appearance on television. Before moving into it he had bribed a businessman to become a famous actor. Someone told him about the curse on the house but he thought that it was just another mystery story.

One dark and storming night, Finn got up to drink some water as he wanted to keep his throat healthy. When he opened the fridge a plague of cockroaches frightened him. Due to the shock, he walked backwards extremely quickly and he hammered his most appreciated award, which was really pointed and sharped. As he was dying, he heard the voice of professor Eckenthorpe saying, “This is the terrible curse that I brought to this house”.

Home or cinema?


Watching the film at home or at the cinema has been always a dilemma. Many people are asking themselves what option they are going to choose. Some of them prefer watching it at home calmly and some others prefer watching it at the cinema. Which is the best option?

On the one hand, watching the film at home is cheaper and quicker than at the cinema if you don’t have to pay for watching it and with about two hours you have seen it and you can continue with your life.  It is also more private and you can stop the film whenever you want or need.

On the other hand, watching it at the cinema is always more special because you spend more time, and also money, watching it. When you are at the cinema, the screen is huge and every movement and word seems more real. Another good point that the cinema has is that you can buy delicious colour popcorn!


To sum up, although watching the film at home is not a bad option watching it at the cinema will give you a nice time, the curiosity for the film during the trip in the car, the excitement of buying the big box of popcorn and the satisfaction you have after living the adventure with all the characters in the big screen is something that you will not live if you decide to watch it at home.

HOW TO DRIVE YOUR STUDENTS CRAZY IN 45 MINUTES


One of the things that drive more crazy students is when you have been waiting  the teacher for 5 or 10 minutes and when he/she opens the door after trying it with all his/her keys he/she says “It isn’t so difficult to start on time! Come on you are so slow!”

Then the teacher keeps in silence till everybody stops talking and sits on the chair crossing legs and arms and says: “Ok, I see that you don’t know how to be in silence so now we are going to practice it. We are going to keep 5 minutes without talking; if anyone talks, we are going to start again!” After 5 minutes in silence, the teacher says “Can we start now?” asking it as if we could answer him/her.

The teacher stands up and starts explaining the new lesson exactly the same way that is in the book, even the same examples! It represents that if you are a teacher, you know what you are explaining and you have an idea of the examples that you can give!

The problem comes when he/she starts writing something on the board and he/she writes like a doctor. Then you have a problem because if you ask the teacher, he/she will answer that you were not listening to him/her and if you don’t ask it, you will not have all the notes completed.


When it’s about 5 minutes to finish, the teacher says “Ok, now you have to do page 5 and page 6. You have time to do it now. If you don’t finish it, it’s homework for tomorrow”. And you are thinking: do you want us to do two pages in 5 minutes? We are not superwomen!!

Subject: Touring holiday
Hi David! How are you? I’ve been thinking of the best places to visit in Lleida and I have chosen these three. You should take the car for the second and third places but you can go on foot in the first one.
The most important thing to visit in Lleida is the Seu Vella. It’s a cathedral. It’s situated in the top of a hill and from there you have a nice view of the entire city.                                          
A place that I think you will enjoy is kayaking in the Congost de Mont Rebei. Kayaking is very nice because you are in a narrow pass and the walls are huge. It isn’t a difficult activity, but it’s a little bit expensive (35 Euros per person). It’s a great activity to learn a little bit more about the territory and to have a good time with your friends.
My third recommendation is going paintball in Miravall. There are three different fields to play with different decoration and places to hide. The activity has a different cost depending on how many balls of paint you want. You must be 12 years old or older to be able to play. You can go with your friends, do two teams and do a competition to know which team is the best.

We are not frightened


“We are not frightened” has been the answer of Barcelona to the terrorist attack that took place the 17th  of August at 17:00pm, the terrorists run over 143 people in the Rambles, one of the most tourist place in Barcelona, 13 of these people died and the other 130 were hospitalized in different hospitals of the city.

Citizens from Barcelona and from other countries of the world show their amiability, empathy, altruism and bravery in the most terrifying moments.
People who were in the Rambles when the terrorist attacks started hide in  shops and bar that were closer to them to try to save their lives. During the hours that they were hiding, shop assistants and waiters offered them water and places to charge their mobile phones. Another problem came when the police told them that they could leave because most of the people who were hiding were tourists. This people had their hotels situated in the zone where the police was searching the driver of the van. Some Barcelona’ citizens who lived near the Rambles decided to offer a bed and dinner to the tourists in their houses because it was getting dark and late.
The 18th of August at 12:00am a hundred thousand people went to the solidarity call in “Plaça Catalunya”. They did a minute of silence and they shouted “We are not frightened!!”  Some other people decided to do a tribute to the victims with flowers, candles and messages. One of the most impressive dedicatory was the one made by the police when they arrested the terrorists: “Ja els tenim, descanseu”. It means: we have them, rest in peace.

People from many different countries stood up as one against terrorism. We showed that we have cried because we are sad for the victims but we are not going to let fear control us, we are going to be brave.

SAN FRANCISCO

I’m going to arrive at the international airport of San Francisco at 9 o’clock in the morning and I’ll go to SoMa Streat Food Park by shuttle (the transport will cost me $18) according to Google maps it will take me approximately 25 minutes.

In SoMa Streat Food Park I’ll eat something (the web page says that there is food for $10). The SoMa Streat Food Park is a mobile village offering specialties from Korea, India, Ethiopia, France, Germany, the Philippines and Greece. The trucks also fry up waffles, crepes, eggs and breakfast sandwiches.

Once I’ll finish I will go to the California Academy of Sciences.  I will go walking through the 11th St to Harrison St to take the bus in Market St & South Van Ness Ave (it’s about 15 min walking), then I’ll take the bus to Irving St & 9th Ave (15 min in bus). When I will arrive I will walk 10 min more till I arrive at the California Academy of Sciences. (The bus costs $1.35). The California Academy of Sciences is considered the world’s greenest museum. It’s the only institution of its kind to combine an aquarium, digital planetarium, natural history museum and scientific research program under one roof.
The price for visit it is $29.95. There I will visit the rainforest and other expositions.

After visiting it, I’ll go for a walk in the Botanic Garden and in the Japanese Tea Garden. I will have lunch in the Japanese Tea Garden and I’ll eat the Garden Escape that is $20.95. It includes two Grilled sandwiches served with Organic Mix Greens Salad.

One of the activities that I will do in the afternoon is visiting the Golden Gate Bridge. I’ll take the bus 25 to get there. The travel takes 10 minutes and it will cost $1.35 more. The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the Seven Engineering Wonders of the World. It is the world's most photographed bridge and it is 2.737 m long. To cross the bridge I’ll rent a bike in “Bike&View” for $23.04. To return to the other side of the bridge I will take a ferry. The travel costs $12.5.

After doing exercise, I’ll recover energy with a donut and a coffee in front of the bridge in the Dynamo Donut & Coffee. I’ll spend $10.

Planning a trip

The second activity of the afternoon is going to Alcatraz. Alcatraz was once a maximum-security prison that housed notorious inmates such as Al Capone. I am going to take the Night trip that costs $43.25 at 6:30 pm. The Night trip will add an extra layer of chill. The trip includes trip ferry to Alcatraz, audio tour, special tour activities, on-board narration and guided tour.

To finish the day I will go dinner at the Oolong Noodles Restaurant which is near to the bridge. They prepare sushi, noodles and seafood. The menu costs $11.

I’m going to pass the night at the Executive Hotel Vintage Court in the Deluxe Queen Room. The hotel and the breakfast cost $200. To get there I’ll take the bus number 8.
Next day I will take the underground at the Montgomery Station to the airport. It costs $5.

I will spend $365.44

I hope I will enjoy this trip I have prepared some day in the future.




CARVE THE MARK

Carve the Mark is a science fiction young adult novel. It is the first book in the duology and the fifth novel by Veronica Roth. The novel is set in space, it introduces the “current” (an energy that runs through every inhabitant of the galaxy) and it gives current gifts to teenagers once they come of a certain age. The two main characters are Cyra Noavek and Akos Kereseth. Cyra’s current gift is pain.

I have chosen these two passages because they explain clearly how the process of carving the mark is and how Cyra feels. I really like the part where she says “It was supposed to burn, supposed to remind you that it was no trifling thing, to take a life, to carve a loss”.                                                       
Although her brother uses her as a weapon forcing her to kill and injure people, she knows that it isn’t an unimportant thing doing it. She carves the marks to remember every time that she has injured someone, so that they do not fall into oblivion. I think that she also carves the marks because she feels guilty for it, for passing her pain to other people because her brother ordered her without fighting against him.

I have also chosen the first passage because it explains the meaning of the title of the story Carve the Mark.
The character I choose is Cyra Noavek. Cyra Noavek is the sister of the ruler of Shotet. She is eighteen years old and her current gift is pain. For her, the current gift it isn’t a gift for her at all because she can make the others suffer pain but she also feels it at every moment.                                                      

She is an intelligent girl who has suffered a lot because of her current gift and her family. However, she still has a good heart and she tries to do the correct thing although it includes putting in danger her life. She is brave, strong and a fighter. I really like to read books with main characters like her. They made me feel good and with energy and bravery enough to try to make the world a better place to live.

Pitch Perfect film review

Have you ever seen Pitch Perfect? If you don't and you want to have a brief idea of what is it about you can read my film review.


PITCH PERFECT

Pitch Perfect is an American musical comedy film directed by Jason Moore. The film tells the story of the Barden University's all-girl a cappella group called “The Barden Bellas”. The leading role is played by Anna Kendrick. The film also stars Brittany Snow and  Elizabeth Banks.

The plot follows the national a cappella competition of 2011 where the Barden Bellas perform. Everything goes well until Aubrey Posen vomits on stage during her solo. This fact humiliates the group and  they lose the competition.  Four months later Beca Mitchell joins the Barden Bellas. After some internal group problems, they regenerate and create a new image for the group.

What really impressed me was the difficulty of the choreographies. They were very accurate.  I also enjoyed the songs and arrangements that they sang and the new image they gave to the group showing that you don’t have to be slim and very beautiful to participate in things. 

The film is a must for teenagers because it’s funny and it shows you many principles of collaborative work and group work. It also shows you that being part of something special, makes you special.

Abril, Dani, Alba and I have written an adventure story about the revolution of a country. Alex, the main character, will have to fight against what she has always seen. Will she be brave enough to do it?

This week a crime was committed in Joan Oró, a high school in Lleida, Catalonia. A very important painting was stolen from the hall of the high school. Some police inspectors are investigating it.

My hidding place

Some weeks ago we wrote a story. Can you imagine what will happen if you have to hide for keeping yourself save?
This is my story:

2000-2002

I’m writing because I don’t know what else I can do. It’s very difficult for me to be motionless. I’m very very boring and it’s only the second day that I’m here. Oh it’s true you don’t know where is here. Here is a derelict school. You are probably thinking if it’s a school it must be a big place! But it’s not! We can only use the toilets, the teachers’ room and a classroom because the other classrooms are very damage because of the bombs and the shootings, there are also some dead bodies.
You read it well, WE. I’m here with another boy that was surviving here when I found this place. I don’t know almost anything about him, his name is Alex, he is 17 years old and he is every moment with his gun and his knives. He says that we have to be prepared in case that someone tries to kill us. He is tall and has muscular arms. He has green eyes and a big mouth. He has straight and short hair.  He is wearing a black T-shirt and gray jeans with lots of holes. If I would have met him some months ago, before everything started I would thought “He is a really handsome boy” but now I can only think in my death family. 

 



It has happened again, this sunrise we heard some shootings very close to us. But now everything is calm and I can continue writing about my family. My mum was a teacher and she worked in a little village near Lleida. My dad was a doctor and my sister was studding first of ESO at the high school. They are all die. They died because of me, they were trying to save me.
We are hidden because the USA government discovered that people that were born between the years 2000 and 2002 have immunologic cells that protect them from diseases. Trump doesn’t want us to be alive because he says that we are going to live forever. Her daughter is the only one that can live forever.
 He sent troops to kill all the people that were born between 2000 and 2002. Thanks God they came with aeroplanes and they landed in Barcelona. All the TV news told us what was happening and me and my family decided to hide together. The problem was that the soldiers found us and they kill my family when I was running away to save my life. I shouldn’t run I should stay with them and fight till the end, but I was afraid, and my brain was paralyzed, my legs decided for me and they start running from that nightmare.
 When I was searching for a new place to hide I found a policewoman died, probably she was trying to save someone but the soldiers kill her. First I couldn’t look at her, she was killed many days before and she smelt really bad. Then I saw a shape, it was her service gun! I took it and also her radio that I don’t know how but it was still working and I continue searching a place for me to hide.
 After some hours thinking where I could go a perfect idea came to my mind: if I hide in a place that they have bombed I’ll be save because they would not bomb it again. And this is the reason because I’m hiding and I came here to the school.

 


Today I’m going to explain you what do we do during the day.
We’ get up at 9 o’clock and we go to the kitchen of the school to eat something. At 10 we do some exercise to keep fit, on Mondays we do two series of 30 squats, 40 crunches and we run 10 laps inside the room.
On Tuesday we do the same as on Monday but with 20 jumps. On Wednesday, Friday and Sunday we’ll do the same as on Monday and on Thursday and Saturday the same as Tuesday.
From 12 to 13 we have to be in absolute silence because they do rounds. Then is when I write. At 13:30 we have lunch and at 14:30 we sleep a little bit. From 15 to 17 we play with the games that we found in the classroom to relate with each other. At 17 we have free time to do what we want and at 19 we have dinner. At 20 we must be in silence because the soldiers do more rounds till 21. At 21:15 I told Alex if he would like to talk about each other and he accepted so from 21 to 22 we will talk and at 22 we will go to sleep.
I think that Alex is trying to do the school safer and more comfortable because he is thinking about new weapons to put in the windows and doors. He invented a catapult that can kill a person and he also did two kinds of pillows with clothes that he found. I’m going to help him doing an inventory of all the food that we have to know how much time we have till we need to go outside to find more food.





It’s the fourth day that I’m here with Alex today. We were finishing the training exercises and he said: “what has happened to your family?” It was the first time we were talking about our families. Before that we only talked about what we were going to do when all this would finish. First I was afraid of sharing my lasts moments with my family, MY FAMILY. I didn’t want to tell him about them also because I run away, I could do something to save them! Then I thought that I have to share my best moments with my family because if I died someone will remember it and it will continue the remember of my family. So I decided to tell him what happened. When I finished he didn’t say anything.
I asked him about his family, he kept in silence. When I was leaving he said: “Do you remember the woman that was telling what was happening in Barcelona and she was killed when they were recording her? She was my mum, Raquel Sans.” When he said her name a tear fell from his left eye. He continued: “She was a really good mum, she was attentive, kind, she was an outgoing and funny person. She was my inspiration. She is my HERO. When my father died because of a traffic accident she took all the little pieces and she recomposed me. She made me who I am.”
I’ve never seen him like this, he looked like a vulnerable little boy. His eyes showed something I thought I will never see. I saw Fear.

 

After all the feelings that I saw yesterday I thought that it will be better if I give him a little bit of space. We followed the timetable and during my free time I started looking for more papers to write.
 I found a folder with a name, Irene. When I read the name something took the control of my feelings. I could not breathe, I could not move, I started crying. Irene. Like my sister. Where was she now? Was she ok? Was she afraid? She was only 13 years old. I looked inside the folder and I found papers for me to write and also some drawings. I returned to the teachers’ room.
I was so affected that I didn’t move from a corner during 3 hours and I didn’t stop crying. I was sad, sad and exhausted.
 


We have a very big problem. Do you remember that I did a list of all the aliments we had? In the list, now, there are also two tuna tins. I’ve told Alex and he says that we have to go outside because if the soldiers don’t kill us the hunger will do it. So today in the training time instead of running Alex taught me how to take the gun from someone when he/she is aiming me. First it was difficult for me because I have never hit somebody, but when I got it no one could stop me.
Near the school, there’s a little market. Alex says it would be a good place to take the food because they don’t have security cams and sensors, but I still don’t like to go there, out of our “save” place.
Today I’m doing all the things in a different way, I’m doing them if it was the last time. Even I’ve looked Alex in a different way. I don’t like to think like that but if it’s my last day in this place of the universe I have to finish doing what I would like to do, within the possibilities I have, of course. I’ve never kissed a boy, and I think it’s one of the little things that I could do before going out there without knowing if I would come alive, without knowing if there’s going to be a tomorrow. To comfort me I think of my family, if all finishes tomorrow at least I would be with them wherever they are. But I’m not going to leave my life without fighting, fighting till the end.

                                                                                                                   
It has arrived, the sun has appeared, I’m breathing, it seems a “normal” day but it’s not for me. The next hours will be decisive for my life. If we survive I’ll have more confidence and strength, but if I die, if I die, well, I don’t know what will happen to me if I die.
We are going to go shopping after the round at 13, because it’s when people are or working or having lunch. No one goes to the market at 13, only some old people but they are not a threat.
It’s 12:30 and I’m very afraid. The minutes are passing and the hour to go to our mission is coming. I’m prepared for anything. I’m prepared for fighting, for running, for shooting someone and for dying.
13:00. It’s time to go says Alex. He was leaving the classroom but I stopped him and said: Alex, before we go out could you please make me a favour? “Yes of course, what do you need?” he says. “I, I was thinking if you, if you have any other recommendation” I tell him. I cannot tell him to kiss me, it would be very strange and probably he would not want to do it. I don’t know how I could imagine that, it’s just impossible. “Do I have any other recommendation? Mmmmm, don’t be scared, be proud of you and just remember I will be with you” he says. He is looking to me, to my eyes like he could see my soul. Then he looks to my lips. My heart starts beating very fast. He is getting closer to my face slowly. His lips touch my lips. During few minutes we don’t move. Suddenly we hear some people running in our direction.
And I knew it, this was my ending. But this time I’m not going to run away, I’m going to fight. I’m going to fight till the end.

For and against composition

Last week I wrote a "for and against composition" about having mobile phones at school.
Do you agree with me or do you have a different opinion?


MOBILE PHONES AT SCHOOL

Nowadays, mobile phones are always with us and they have become an important object. For that reason some teachers want to introduce it at school. However, some people disagree in this debate.

On the one hand, teachers don’t want it because it is very distractive for students and addictive for some people, so the school is the only moment when they are disconnected. Also, some teachers could feel bad because if the mobile phone rings, it will interrupt his/her class and the attention of the other students will be disconnected.

On the other hand, mobile phones are also called smart phones for some reason. We have in our hands the opportunity to use this machine in our favour to make education more interesting and effective. Furthermore, there are more advantages than disadvantages in the use of mobile phones at school; for instance, the speed to search for information or the amount of information you can get at a simple click.


In conclusion, banning mobile phones at school is depriving students of a really good machine that can help them to learn more things. Everything has a positive and a negative part; if you only want to see the negative one you will lose all the positive things.
